What is Diabetes?

Diabetes commonly known as “sugar” is a condition in which human body cannot properly process the food consumed and transform it to energy. Generally, the nutrients that we take transform to glucose  a kind of sugar  and it goes round in the blood stream. This sugar is controlled by a hormone known as insulin that gets this sugar into our body cells for energy. However, in diabetics something to this mechanism is not perfect and more sugar remains in the blood than it should be.

Types of Diabetes

 1. Type 1 Diabetes:

It happens when the body’s defenders, the immune system, attacks cells in the pancreas that make insulin. This is a condition that is oftentimes seen in children and adolescents, but it is not limited to this age group only.

 2. Type 2 Diabetes:

This is the most common type and develops when a person’s cells cannot use the insulin that is produced or there is inadequate insulin production. It is most closely linked with obesity and, inactivity.

 3. Gestational Diabetes:

This type establishes itself during pregnancy and as it is with the majority of pathogenic types, it fades off after the birth of the baby. But it can increase the chance of developing the type 2 diabetes at a later stage.

There are also searches for cure like the replacement of the pancreas but these are still in experimentation stage at the moment.
