Profession

The term profession comes from the Latin “profession, -ōnis” this designates the trade, employment, and occupation that are exercised in exchange for remuneration. It also defines the set of professionals who exercise it.

It requires specialized knowledge, professional training, or educational training of different levels, control over the content of the work, and its own organization through professional associations, unions, and associations. They also have ethical standards or professional deontology and a spirit of service to the community.

Differences between Trade and Profession

• The trade is work related to manual or artisan work. In this case, the worker is skilled to perform specific tasks.
• The trade is learned by working directly, it is learned as a result of experience and constant practice. Some trades are shoemaker, baker, jeweler, blacksmith, plumber, watchmaker, and turner.
• A profession is taught in universities or institutes because they require specialized knowledge.
• A professional has an academic endorsement. A profession is for example engineering, architecture, medicine, biology or journalism.
