A talent is defined by resources as a person’s ability that is inherent, innate, or naturally occurring. It is said that talent is a special ability to do something without previous experience, study, or tutelage.
It is often classified or compared to an instinct or a certain instinct to do something without extra effort and almost perfect in execution.
Since talent is innate, only a few people have acquired it. A talent makes it somewhat restrictive: some people have it and others don’t.
Because it occurs naturally, talent is also viewed as a raw skill that can be developed and improved over time with direction such as instruction and training. The constant improvement of any skill or art gives an advantage to any individual.
The above is also true for a skill. Unlike a talent, skill is learned and practiced over a period of time.
It is an acquired or obtained skill that is often the result of constant performance and improvement in a particular task or behavior.
Skills are often taught and viewed as demonstrated talent. It is the “nurturing” aspect that is the opposite of talent being “nature” or natural acquisition of ability.
From this point of view, it can be said that a skill can be a result of an extension of a person’s particular talent and considerable effort. This means that talent can be a starting point for improving a skill.
A skill can be a refined skill when combined with talent.
Using both skill and talent can lead an individual to success and fulfill a goal in life. It is not a substitute for talent, nor is a talent a substitute for skill.
A skill, like something acquired, needs instruction, time, training, and practice to really learn.
The training involved in doing a skill can also result in good values like hard work, perseverance, dedication, excellence, and other positive attributes for a person.
Another difference between a skill and a talent is that everyone has the opportunity, the potential, and the ability to learn and acquire a particular skill.
