It is also known as sensory processing, and it is the reception of stimuli from a medium through the sensory organs such as eyes, skin, nose, ears, and mouth. These stimuli are transformed into electrical and chemical impulses that travel through the central nervous system or to the brain in order to find meaning and organize them. This last part will depend on the way of processing of each living being, in which case we would speak of perception.
Perception is the way in which the brain feels the sensations or sensory stimuli it receives through the senses in order to form an impression of the reality of its environment. It is the set of mental processes used by a person to select, organize, and interpret the information that comes from stimuli, feelings, and thoughts based on their experience in a logical or meaningful way.
The senses are the physiological mechanism of perception, their study and classification are carried out by neuroscience, philosophy of perception, and cognitive psychology.
