Sensation and perception

The Differences between Sensation and Perception is given here. Sensation and perception are two closely related concepts. However, there is a fundamental difference. The sensation is linked to the reception of stimuli from a medium through sensory organs, while perception is the interpretation that our brain makes of these sensations.

Sensation
It is also known as sensory processing, and it is the reception of stimuli from a medium through the sensory organs such as eyes, skin, nose, ears, and mouth. These stimuli are transformed into electrical and chemical impulses that travel through the central nervous system or to the brain in order to find meaning and organize them. This last part will depend on the way of processing of each living being, in which case we would speak of perception.
Perception
Perception is the way in which the brain feels the sensations or sensory stimuli it receives through the senses in order to form an impression of the reality of its environment. It is the set of mental processes used by a person to select, organize, and interpret the information that comes from stimuli, feelings, and thoughts based on their experience in a logical or meaningful way.
The senses are the physiological mechanism of perception, their study and classification are carried out by neuroscience, philosophy of perception, and cognitive psychology.
Some fields of investigation of perception are organized according to the classical senses, but there are many types of perception:
- Visual perception: Two dimensions.
- Spatial perception: Three dimensions.
- Olfactory perception: Smells
- Auditory perception: Noises and sounds.
- Cenesthesia: Of the internal organs.
- Tactile perception: Combines all the senses of the skin.
- Thermal perception: Related to temperature variations.
- Perception of pain.
- Gustatory perception.
- Chemosesthesia: Perception of strong flavors.
- Perception of balance;
- Kinesthesia: Perception of movements of muscles and tendons
- Perception of time.
- Perception of form.
- Perception of the magnetic field.

Differences between Sensation and Perception
- The sensation is everything related to the reception and transport of stimuli by the senses of the body and the central nervous system.
- Perception is the way in which the brain feels and analyzes sensations to create an impression of reality.
