Patriotism

It is that thought that links a person with their homeland. It is a feeling that an individual has towards his native or adopted land to which he feels linked by his values, affections, history, and culture. It is the equivalent of the pride that a person can feel in belonging to a family.

It is related to the possession of a cultural identity that separates an individual as a member of a group from other individuals who are members of other groups.

The detractors of patriotism affirm that if this sentiment did not exist, many of the current problems of social coexistence such as forced integration, murder, xenophobia, the kidnapping of women and children, racism, extinction, genocide, and wars could be avoided.

Nationalism

It is an ideology and socio-political movement that emerged together with the concept of nation in the Contemporary Age from the end of the 18th century. It is oriented towards the development and maintenance of national identity.

National identity is based on the characteristics shared by a nation such as culture, ethnicity, language, religion, and political objectives. Nationalism seeks to preserve national culture.

Nationalism also implies a feeling of pride in the achievements of a nation.

The detractors of this concept affirm that the national division that nationalism proposes is one of the main causes of suffering in the world and that it is nothing more than a type of collective egoism.
