Oxides

Examples of oxides

The oxides When it comes to combinations between metals and oxygens they will be called basic oxides, while when it is a combination between a non-metal and oxygen it will be an acid oxide. Common types of oxides are Neutral oxides, Basic oxides, Acidic oxides, and amphoteric oxides.

Virtually all the elements can be combined with oxygen-generating an oxide, which is why many classifications are opened in this sense. The binary oxides will be those that are composed solely of oxygen and another element, while the mixed ones will be those that are formed from the intervention of more than two elements.

Usual and frequent oxides in everyday life

The carbon monoxide (known as dioxide, by the presence of two oxygen elements) has many medical commercials, industrial, and: removes oxygen to the fire, acts as soil fertilizer, and as agent ventilation surgery.

The nitrogen oxide is a colorless gas that is present in mammals, of which a few years later it was noted that having other functions (such as treating pain or preserve food) but states that have effects very harmful to the environment, what many warn about the risks in its extended use.

Oxides have different classes of nomenclatures, among which the traditional one that differentiates the designation of each oxide according to the oxidation number stands out.

Examples of oxides (traditional nomenclature)

Potassium oxide Chloric oxide
Lithium oxide Phosphoric oxide
Lanthanum oxide Bismuthic oxide
Cobalt oxide Aluminum oxide
Bismuth oxide Hyposulfurous oxide
Hyposelenious oxide Phosphorous oxide
Perchloric oxide Auric oxide
