Difference between n-TYPE AND p-TYPE semiconductors

Difference between n-TYPE AND p-TYPE semiconductors

n-TYPE

p-TYPE

Definition

If a silicon germanium crystal is doped with a pentavalent element (arsenic). It has a free electron which makes crystal n-TYPE semi-conductor. If a silicon germanium crystal is doped with a trivalent element (indium), a hole is left in the crystal due to a shortage of an electron. This hole behaves like a positive charge. The resulting crystal is called p-TYPE semi-conductor.

Charge

In n-type semiconductor electric current flows due to the flow of free electrons (negative charge). In n-type semiconductor electric current flows due to the movement of holes (positive charge).
