When filing, an object is rubbed with a file or a steel tool with a rough surface in order to abrade or smooth hard materials such as wood or metal.
Files have been found since the beginning of mankind, it is one of the first cutting tools invented by mankind. The oldest lime was found on the island of Crete in the Mediterranean Sea by an archaeological expedition from the University of Pennsylvania, it is believed to date back to 1500 BC
Files are used to grind and polish metal, wood, and plastic surfaces. They are cutting tools and are classified by their cut:
- Simple: a row of teeth.
- Double: two rows of teeth.
These teeth can be engraved at different depths and are therefore classified as Coarse, bastard, fine, or rasp.
They are also classified by their shape into round, square, triangular, and specialized.
Sand
Sanding is smoothing, polishing, or cleaning a surface with an abrasive object. Sanding is an important task in finishing work such as paint or varnish.
Sanding can be done by hand or in electric machines such as sanders or drills.
The sandpaper is usually abrasive materials, it is also known as sandpaper to the tool consisting of support where the sandpaper or emery dust is placed to sand a piece.
Sanding removes small pieces of material from a surface to smooth faces and in preparation before painting or varnishing.

Differences between Filing and Sanding
